A Quick Synopsis of the Life and Times of Stephen Hahn and his Relevance to 3S International
1. Who I am and where I come from:
I grew up in a DIY environment. My parents built the house I grew up in. It was always in a
state of renovation which resulted in me learning many things. Dad was a certified mechanic,
turned certified welder, and he went to get his engineering degree… (finally) when I was a
freshman in high school, he was a freshman in college when I was a freshman in high school, (I
thought that was cool). This exposed me to the tech of the day. 3d Modeling (sadly PRO-E),
Lasers, Machine tools. The exposure to these things largely shaped my career path. I joined
the Army National Guard My Junior year of high school as an M1 Tank turret mechanic. This
exposed me to electronic and mechanical trouble shooting skills that I still rely on to this day.
Following that I served in the Air Force National guard as an electronics/network technician. I
have Two Children who mean the world to me. I have a passion for making things and solving
problems.
Take Away: I love a challenge. I like to Build Things. I have a diverse skill set.
2. What I have done:
In an effort to spare the resume, I am just going to briefly describe my experiences (Resume
available upon request). I started in in small shops and landed a product design gig as a
contractor with Caterpillar. This spanned seven years and a couple projects, as well as meeting
John Kuykendall. Which is why I am here now. I did a couple of projects for John on the side
(While working at John Deere) and finally found a place full time with 3S International. My
Career has been the design and manufacture of various products giving me two decades of
experience in various perspectives of the design/manufacturing environment. In short, I can
put it on my screen, use FEA to validate the design, program the parts, make the parts, and
build the final assembly. Someone else has to paint it though, I’m not so good at that…
Take Away: I love building things and I am pretty good at it, but… I cannot paint very well!
3. The here and now:
I love my job and this is why: I am involved and I contribute to all phases of design and
manufacturing. I can program and operate all of our equipment. I do much of the quoting and
deal with customers / suppliers on a regular basis. I continually try to find ways to make the
company more efficient and thus profitable.
Take Away: I care about the products that go out the door, and how profitable they are.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
